KEFALONIA WEDDINGS
Wedding Ceremonies

Orthodox Wedding
The wedding service in the Greek Orthodox religion is an ancient and beautiful. It has been celebrated in its current form for centuries. Full of symbolism, the ceremony is great experience if you have never attended one before, and is likely to be quite different from other weddings you have attended. In the Greek Orthodox ceremony, the bride and groom do not make vows to each other: instead, their vows are made to God.
CATHOLIC WEDDING
The Catholic wedding service is held in St. Nicolas church, the only Catholic church in Kefalonia, located in the centre of the capital city, Argostoli. A Catholic wedding service where the bride and groom are both Catholics is usually Nuptial Mass, where they will both receive Communion. In the case of marriage between a Catholic and a non-Catholic, the service could be performed outside of Mass, in a wedding ceremony without Communion.

Symbolic wedding
There is no documentation required for a symbolic or commitment ceremonies and it is the perfect choice for those who have already had a civil ceremony or who would like to make a commitment to one another. If you wish to avoid expenses and bureaucracy, the solution is a symbolic wedding which will be exactly the same in terms of ceremony. You miss nothing and you gain the money you would spend to prepare your paperwork.
Civil Wedding
Civil weddings are performed by the mayor or by someone authorized by the mayor in an office in the town hall of the wedding location. The ceremony lasts typically 15 minutes and the mayor proclaims you husband and wife and delivers to you the wedding certificate. The certification is legally binding all over the world and it has nothing to do with any religious beliefs.

Same Sex
Gay weddings and same sex marriage are now legal in Kefalonia and in whole Greece. The official legality of same sex marriages may vary from country to country, and there are changes to these laws all the time. However, if you want to exchange vows, hold a commitment ceremony or get married legally with the one you love on this beautiful island, you can do.
